Three people were transported by ambulance to area hospitals following an accident involving a DTA bus and two vehicles Monday morning at the intersection of Tower Avenue and Broadway Street in Superior.

The bus and a Ford Explorer behind it were waiting for the red light on Broadway Street when a white Ford truck struck the Explorer from behind, pushing it into the bus, according to a Superior Police accident report.

The driver of the truck, Kristin Spath of Superior, admitted to police that she had been reaching for her cell phone on the floor of the truck at the time of the crash. She told officers she was traveling about 30 mph when she struck the Explorer. She was not wearing a seatbelt at the time, according to the report.

Spath was transported by ambulance with an "incapacitating injury." The driver and passenger in the Explorer also were transported by ambulance with "nonincapacitating injuries," according to the report.

Spath was issued citations for speeding, inattentive driving and failure to wear a seatbelt.
