Races will affect bus service Friday and Saturday

This week's Grandma's Marathon will cause several changes in Duluth Transit Authority bus service.

On Friday:

* The DTA will suspend the 15C-Canal Park/Park Point route after 11:30 a.m. to accommodate marathon set-up work in Canal Park.

* The Port Town Trolley will run exclusively on Lake Avenue in Canal Park throughout the day.

* The trolley will be detoured from Harbor Drive at 5:30 p.m. for the William A. Irvin 5K Race.

On Saturday:

* Buses will be detoured off Superior Street from 6:30 a.m. to approximately 2 p.m. Westbound buses will be detoured to First Street from 14th Avenue East; eastbound buses will be detoured to Second Street to 12th Avenue East.

* Bus service to Park Point will not begin until the completion of the race -- about 2 p.m.

* The Port Town Trolley will provide continuous shuttle services during the race along Lake Avenue in Canal Park between Superior Street and the Aerial Lift Bridge. It will resume its regular route after the race.

In addition, the DTA will provide free bus and trolley rides Saturday to marathon and half-marathon runners presenting their race numbers.
