Prep soccer playoff seedings released

Esko-Carlton received the top seed -- and a first-round bye -- on Monday as the pairings for the Section 7A girls soccer playoffs were announced.

The Eskomos (10-3-3) will open the playoffs at 5 p.m. Saturday at home against the winner of Thursday's game between eighth-seeded Zimmerman and ninth-seeded Hibbing.

Second-seeded Hermantown also has a first-round bye; the Hawks will host a game at 3 p.m. Saturday against the winners of Thursday's game between seventh-seeded Proctor and 10th-seeded Duluth Central.

Other Northland schools in the playoffs include No. 3 Cloquet; No. 4 Grand Rapids; No. 5 Two Harbors; No. 6 Duluth Marshall; and No. 12 Duluth Denfeld. All will open the playoffs on Thursday.

In the Section 7A boys soccer playoffs, Duluth East was awarded the top seed, followed by No. 2 Duluth Marshall, No. 3 Hermantown and No. 4 Cloquet-Esko-Carlton. All four teams open the playoffs on Saturday.

Other Northland schools in the field -- with games on Thursday -- are No. 6 Duluth Denfeld, No. 7 Grand Rapids, No. 8 Proctor, No. 9 Duluth Central, No. 11 Hibbing and No. 12 Two Harbors.

The Section 7A title games will be held on Oct. 18 at Public Schools Stadium in Duluth -- at 5 p.m. for girls, and 7 p.m. for boys.
