Jason Kangas' basket at the buzzer lifted Mesabi East past Duluth Marshall 68-66 in a high school boys basketball game Monday in Aurora.

Kangas finished with 16 points as Mesabi East (10-5) won for the ninth time in its last 10 games.

The Hilltoppers (6-8) tied the game at 66 after Mike Carlson hit a 3-pointer with 10 seconds remaining before the Giants won on Kangas' last-second shot.

Carlson led Marshall with 19 points.

Hibbing 53, Chisholm 45

Georde Marchand had six 3-pointers and finished with 24 points to lead Hibbing past 10th- ranked Chisholm in Hibbing.

Hibbing improved to 7-9, 4-2 in the Iron Range Conference.

Chisholm, ranked No. 10 in Class A, falls to 12-3, 1-2 in the IRC.

Girls basketball: Grand Rapids 52, Esko 34

Grand Rapids topped Esko at home to win its 12th straight game and the Thunderhawks are 9-0 at home this season.

Meredith Rothstein had a game-high 19 points for the Thunderhawks (15-4).

Jamie Rust led Esko (11-7) with 10 points.

Cherry 66, Cook 63

Erianne Bright had 23 rebounds to bring her career total to 1,002 as Cherry beat Cook at home.

Bright added 19 points and Kaci Johnson had 14 points and 23 rebounds for Cherry.
