The Eskomos lost the first two games 25-14, 25-17 before coming back to take the final three 25-19, 25-15, 15-10.

Jamie Rust led with 14 kills and Keely Deadrick added 23 set assists and 11 digs as Esko won its season opener. Hermantown's Sannie Olson had 31 set assists.

Both teams moved into Section 7AA before this season.

Montana Vichorek totaled 11 kills as the host Lumberjacks downed the Greyhounds for the first time since 2003, winning a fifth game 15-13.

Taylor Sautbine had 29 set assists as Cloquet won its season opener. East's Brianna Larson had 14 kills and Amy Lothenbach had 23 digs.
