Lake Country Power reported Friday night that gusty winds were to blame for power outages that affected nearly 1,500 customers in the Northland.

As of 10 p.m., nearly 750 customers remained without power, with the largest outage in the Kettle River and Barnum areas. Crews were working on at least a dozen outages, with others in the Mountain Iron, Cook and Grand Rapids areas.

The utility said winds were to blame for most of the outages; the Northland saw gusty winds during the afternoon hours, and some storms during the evening. Lake Country Power reported that its engineers were looking into other possible causes for the outages.

Minnesota Power reported about 1,500 customers without power as of 10 p.m. Friday, mostly in the Brainerd and Park Rapids areas.
