Starting Friday, the Duluth Transit Authority’s Port Town Trolley Service will be free for riders.
“The free fare is being offered to encourage the use of the trolley service as a shuttle to and from Canal Park, particularly for those parking at the Duluth Entertainment Convention Center and downtown parking ramps,” the DTA reported in a news release Tuesday.
The DTA increased the frequency of trolley service to every 20 minutes this summer, and expanded the trolley route to include the Historic Arts and Theater District and the Fitger’s Brewery Complex. It’s hoped that the free fare will encourage more use of the transit option, to reduce traffic in Canal Park.
“Hotel guests, visitors and Duluth residents can now access all that the Canal Park and downtown have to offer for free without driving around looking for parking,” DTA General Manager Dennis Jensen said in the news release.
