A 17-year-old Duluth boy has been arrested in connection with the attempted armed robbery of a sandwich shop delivery driver in West Duluth, authorities said.
Duluth police were called to the 100 block of South 57th Avenue West at 8:28 p.m. on a report of an attempted robbery of a driver for Erbert and Gerbert's Sandwich Shop, said Duluth Police information officer Jim Hansen.
The driver was making a delivery when the teen allegedly approached him, showed him a gun and demanded money. The man refused and the teen reportedly ran eastbound. A tip from a caller who said the male was running toward Super One at 5800 Bristol St. led police to set up a perimeter and begin evacuating the store. The teen was seen running into the store and he was taken into custody at that time.
Police took him to the Arrowhead Juvenile Center pending formal charges of first-degree aggravated robbery and second-degree assault.
No one was injured and police are investigating. Anyone with information is asked to call the Duluth Police Department Violent Crimes Unit Hotline at (218) 730-5435.
