Superior police reported Friday that a suspect has confessed to robbing a gas station and motel in separate incidents earlier this week.
Joseph G. Cobb, 26, of Lac du Flambeau, Wis., was arrested near Hayward on Wednesday, and authorities reported Thursday that he confessed to the armed robbery of a Hayward motel and Rice Lake, Wis., Dairy Queen, and the attempted armed robbery of a motel in Iron River.
The Superior Police Department said in a news release Friday that it sent detectives to speak with Cobb on Thursday, and that he confessed to robbing the Krist Oil gas station at 2821 E. Second St. at about 10 p.m. Monday, and the Super 8 motel at 4901 E. Second St. just after 3 a.m. Wednesday.
Cobb, who also is a suspect in the Wednesday armed robbery of a Super 8 motel in Ashland, is being held at the Sawyer County Jail on $20,000 cash bond.
After Cobb's arrest on Wednesday afternoon, Hayward police reported that authorities recovered a black plastic BB gun - which looked very much like a real handgun, officials said - that allegedly was used in at least one of the other robberies, at the Flat Creek Inn & Suites in Hayward on Tuesday.
