Authorities have identified the four people killed Tuesday evening in a collision between a pickup truck and a semi in Pine County.

The Pine County Sheriff's Office reported that the victims, who were riding in the pickup, were Arden Edwards, 58, of Bruno; Brett Larson, 21, of Sandstone; Catherine Peterson, 20, of Askov; and Felicity Jensen, 17, of Bruno.

A fifth person in the pickup, a 21-year-old man, is in critical condition at a Duluth hospital, officials said. He has not yet been identified.

All five were in a pickup truck that turned in front of the semi at the intersection of Clark and Rutabaga roads about a mile east of Askov about 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, officials said.

Some of the victims were related, Pine County Chief Deputy Steven Blackwell said.

Two of the four people who died were riding in the open bed of the pickup at the time of the crash, Blackwell said. While Minnesota has a few restrictions on riding in the bed of a pickup, they did not apply in this case, the State Patrol said.

Blackwell said the victims, all thrown from the pickup, might have been transporting items from one farm to another when the accident happened because wood and other things were strewn about the crash scene. There was no indication alcohol was involved in the crash, he said.

The semi driver was not hurt.
