An 84-year-old Hermantown man was killed Thursday in a hit-and-run on Arrowhead Road, the Hermantown Police Department said in a news release.
Police said Laurence Carl Sundquist, 84, was on the 5100 block of Arrowhead Road apparently trying to get a newspaper from a roadside box.
Police and rescue personnel were alerted about 5 a.m., when a motorist found Sundquist on the road lying unconscious and not breathing. Medical personnel arrived minutes later, attempted life-saving measures and transported him to Essentia Health St. Mary's Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead shortly before 6 a.m.
Hermantown police are asking the public for help in providing information pertaining to the accident. The driver and vehicle that struck Sundquist have not been located.
Police are being assisted in the investigation by the Minnesota State Patrol accident reconstruction team.

The Hermantown police and fire departments were assisted at the scene by the Minnesota State Patrol, St. Louis County Sheriff's Department, and the Proctor and Duluth police departments.
