A Duluth man who had more than 56 pounds of marijuana in his home was shot early Monday morning in a robbery that probably was drug-related, Duluth police said.
The 35-year-old man was shot just after 1 a.m. at his home on the 900 block of East Ninth Street, according to the Duluth Police Department. The man remains in stable condition at a Duluth hospital.
Police reported that they found the marijuana -- with a street value in excess of $200,000 -- along with $12,000 in cash during a subsequent search of the house.
The man told officers that three men wearing ski masks forced their way into the residence. When he confronted them, two suspects ran away, he said. A scuffle ensued with the third suspect, who then shot the resident in the front shoulder before leaving the house.
The victim allegedly told police that the incident may have been a "drug rip." Officers also found other evidence of drugs in the home.

The man did not consent to a search of the house, so officers obtained a search warrant. The drugs and cash were seized during a search later that morning.
Police still are investigating the incident. Anyone with more information is asked to contact the department's violent crimes unit at (218) 730-5050.
