Bubba and Berlin celebrated their 17th birthdays at the Lake Superior Zoo.
* Polar bears live to about 35 years of age.
* Bubba, a male, weighs about 800 pounds. Berlin, a female, weighs about 500 pounds.
* Bubba and Berlin's diet consists of meat, fish, lard and polar bear biscuits, with treats of carrots, apples, oranges, salmon and mackerel.
* Each month the bears consume 450 pounds of meat, 640 pounds of fish and 120 pounds of produce.

* Polar bear fur is clear and hollow, and transmits light so skin can absorb heat. The fur is oily and impenetrable to water.
