Teaching kids how to fight? Well, pretend fight, anyway.

Don Preston, a professional stage combat and fight choreographer from St. Paul will conduct a free workshop on basic techniques and moves of stage combat for youths ages 10 to 17 Saturday, March 8, at the Duluth Playhouse's Depot Theatre.

Preston is a certified teacher with the Society of American Fight Directors. He teaches and choreographs stage combat for theaters and schools across the United States. He is the resident stage combat teacher for Park Square Theatre and principal owner of "They Fight" Stage Combat School in St. Paul.

The workshop comes at a good time -- an upcoming production of "The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe" at the Playhouse has a combat scene.

Space is limited, and pre-registration is required for those who want to participate. However, anyone may stop in and observe -- the Depot's Family Day festivities will also be going on. The workshop will run from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.
