Let Duluth Vote will unveil the details of its alternative long-range plan at a Duluth school district committee of the whole meeting Tuesday night.
The plan, known as Plan B, costs significantly less than the red plan but does not include as much new construction or renovations to existing schools. Plan B also calls for closing fewer schools and would keep all three district high schools open.
Details of the plan will be presented by ATS&R Planners/Architects/Engineers, a Minneapolis firm hired by the district to work with Let Duluth Vote to develop the plan into a review and comment document to be submitted this week to the Minnesota Department of Education. Art Johnston, a member of Let Duluth Vote, also will present.
The district is required by law to help Let Duluth Vote send its plan to the state education department because of a petition signed by more than 3,000 community members more than a year ago.
If the state approves the plan, it can be put forward for a nonbinding referendum.
