The pickup that construction workers discovered while dredging in the St. Louis Bay last week has been identified.
The truck, built in the late 1970s and last registered in Wisconsin in 1991, was reported stolen to the Duluth Police Department on Aug. 25, 1990, according to the Douglas County Sheriffâs Office.
The truck was found last Thursday in the harbor between Midwest Energy and General Mills Elevator âOâ on the Superior side of St. Louis Bay.
Workers from RJS Construction were dredging the harbor when they found the blue 1978 Ford pickup in about 26 feet of water, according to a statement from the Douglas County Sheriffâs Office.
The truck was brought to Fraser Shipyards, where investigators recovered the license plate and vehicle identification number, which were used to trace the vehicle to an insurance company. The license plate was last registered in 1991, according to the tab sticker.
The Douglas County Sheriffâs Office said they will classify this incident as a recovered stolen vehicle.
