The Full Harvest Moon rises over Lake Superior as seen from Brighton Beach Monday evening as the saltie HR Maria departs for points south. The Harvest Moon is the full moon closest to the fall equinox, which happens on September 22nd this year. Because it rises at closely spaced times for a few nights in a row, the moon provided extra light to bring in the harvest in the era before electric lighting.
