The Cason J. Callaway departs from the Duluth Ship Canal into Lake Superior Saturday afternoon in Duluth. The 647-foot long ship is the first to leave for the season and is headed to Two Harbors to load iron ore. The Presque Isle and the John G. Munson will join the Callaway in Two Harbors to load iron ore on Sunday or Monday. The three vessels are operated by Key Lakes, Inc., and all have reinforced hulls able to withstand significant ice pressure. (Clint Austin / caustin@duluthnews.com)
