A small amount of herbicide-water mixture spilled after a Guardian Pest Solutions truck overturned on the North Shore Scenic Railroad tracks near 44th Avenue East this afternoon.
The accident happened after the eastbound truck appeared to miss a curve on Superior Street, crossed the Lakewalk, crashed through a fence and went down a slight hill to the tracks.
Two people in the truck were taken by ambulance to a local hospital, Duluth Assistant Fire Chief Erik Simonson said.
Simonson said the truck was carrying a mixture of 10 percent herbicide and 90 percent water. Simonson said only a few gallons spilled after the accident.
"The biggest concern is a spill," Simonson said as workers waited for a Minnesota State Patrol Commercial Vehicle Inspector to arrive at the scene. Efforts to right the truck couldn't begin until after the CVI inspected the scene.

Simonson didn't know how much herbicide mixture remained in the truck.
