I have read several letters to the editor by Northland people making reference to the phrase "separation of church and state" as found in the Constitution of the United States of America. Bogus! This phrase is not in the U.S. Constitution. It was first written down by Thomas Jefferson in the late 1700s.
"Separation of church and state" is a prenumbra, a phrase quoted enough so it is accepted truth. It was used in the 1920s in the Scopes trial in Tennessee. It is used today by the ACLU to take the Ten Commandments out of public areas, ban Bible reading and religious activity in schools and to defend any religious non-believer. It is because most Americans have never read our U.S. Constitution that the elitist left feel they can fool everyone in this great country. Every American history and civics textbook contains a copy if you would only take the time to read it.
