The intersection is being made safer because of increased detour traffic, and a history of driver confusion at the site.

Minnesota Department of Transportation crews will be installing an all-way stop at the intersection of 40 th Avenue West and Michigan Street at the southbound Interstate 35 off-ramp next week.

The all-way stop is being installed due to safety concerns, along with increased traffic from the 27 th Avenue West detour, a MnDOT news release said Wednesday.

The current traffic control is all directions of traffic stop except for traffic heading south on 40 th Avenue West heading across the I-35 overpass.

There is also a safety benefit to making the all-way stop permanent due to crash history indicating driver confusion at this intersection, MnDOT said.

The change should decrease driver confusion and reduce delay for motorists traveling on West Michigan Street at the southbound I-35 off-ramp. As a result, the all-way stop is planned to be a permanent change.
