Superior police officers handed out more than a dozen citations, including 10 for underage drinking at a party on the beach near Dutchman's Creek early Sunday.
Officers arrived at the creek, located at the end of Moccasin Mike Road, about 3:20 a.m. Sunday to find a huge party going on. Empty bottles, cans and cups were scattered across the beach and a number of participants appeared to be under the legal drinking age, according to police reports.
As people were exiting and arriving, officers checked identification to make sure they were 21 or older.
Many of the citations were handed out to Minnesota residents, including a 19-year-old Carlton woman whose breathalyzer test showed a blood alcohol concentration of 0.121 and an 18-year-old Superior man who tried to sprint toward the beach to avoid officers. He was cited for resisting an officer and for underage drinking when a breathalyzer test showed he had a blood alcohol concentration of 0.14.
Three Superior teens on bikes were stopped at the intersection of Moccasin Mike Road and East Second Street by police leaving the scene of the party. The boys said they were heading to the party at Dutchman's, but turned around when they saw the officers. All three were cited for curfew violations, and one of them, a 15-year-old, was referred to juvenile intake for possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia, according to the reports.
