Parts of Northland see nearly half-foot of snow; cold on the way

Steady snow added up to close to a half-foot in some parts of the Northland on Sunday -- and the region is forecast to see highs only in the teens by the middle of the week.

Weather spotters in Knife River, near Palmers and near French River reported 5 inches of snow, according to a roundup relayed by the National Weather Service in Duluth at about 9 p.m. Sunday.

Other reports included 4.5 inches near Lester Park in Duluth, 4 inches in McKinley and near Two Harbors, 3 inches in West Duluth, Chisholm and Hibbing, 2.5 inches in International Falls, and 2 inches in Esko, Embarrass and Solon Springs.

After highs in the 30s today, the Northland is forecast to see highs in the 20s on Tuesday, and only in the teens on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. The average high temperature in Duluth at this time of year is about 25 degrees.

There will be a chance for light snow much of the week, with some mixed precipitation possible Monday.
