Close to a foot of snow fell on parts of the Northland from Wednesday afternoon through Thursday evening.

A weather spotter near Lutsen in Cook County reported 11.3 inches of snow through 6 p.m. Thursday, and an observer in Cornucopia on the South Shore reported 8 inches.

The light, powdery snow was blown about by winds gusting in excess of 30 mph at times on Thursday, causing difficult travel around the region.

Other snow totals through Thursday evening included:

  • 5.7 inches - Duluth Heights
  • 4 inches - Winton
  • 3.8 inches - Duluth airport
  • 3.6 inches - International Falls
  • 3.5 inches - Oulu
  • 2.5 inches - Larsmont Another round of light snow is in the forecast for Friday night, with the Twin Ports in line to receive another 2 to 3 inches.
