Udac will hold its second annual Walk a Mile in Our Shoes treadmill walkathon on Wednesday, Jan. 21.

Participants are asked to collect at least $100 in pledges and walk one mile on a treadmill anytime between 7 am and 7 pm in Udac's STEPS Fitness Center on the day of the event. Participants can walk a mile either as a team of six or as an individual. A traveling trophy and recognition in the Walk a Mile Hall of Fame will be awarded to the team and individual that raises the most money.

Raffle prizes will be given out every half hour, with prizes including a UMD football helmet worn in the Division II national championship game, a year's membership to the Center for Personal Fitness, gift certificates and more. UMD men's basketball coach Gary Holquist and UMD assistant athletic director, Karen Stromme, are the honorary event co-chairs.

For those who are not able to walk on the day of the event, please consider supporting others. Every dime raised will support Udac's Specialized Training and Exercise Program (STEPS). Participation in the event means people with disabilities, chronic diseases and issues with aging can work out in an environment tailored to their needs.

"The STEPS Fitness Center has been able to serve not only clients of Udac, but also people throughout the community who can't easily access traditional fitness centers," said Bobbie Lenz, Udac's executive director. "We truly appreciate the support of people in the community who help us maintain these important services."
