The Duluth Parks and Recreation Commission has awarded grants to 11 projects totaling $23,507.19.
Grants for programs and facilities are a cooperative effort between the city and the Parks and Recreation Commission. These grants of $2,500 or less were awarded as starter funds to foster and promote recreation programs, encourage the acquisition, construction, reconstruction, refurbishing, maintenance and operation of public recreation facilities and program.
The following projects received funds:
Duluth Amateur Youth Basketball Association -- $2,500 to resurface the water damaged gym floor in the Washington Center.
Duluth Audubon Society -- $2,200 to develop a map highlighting prime locations to observe birds in the Twin Ports.

Glen Avon Hockey Association -- $2,500 to remove all the hockey boards , grade the rink surface, and rebuild boards with curved corners. This will improve safety and reduce maintenance.
Twin Ports Boxing Club -- $2,500 to replace worn out equipment: gloves, jump ropes, headgear, heavy bags and speedbags, to provide registration for children unable to pay and to provide travel money for out of town tournaments.
Park Point Community Club -- $300 to purchase two vacuum cleaners and a chair for the lower level of Lafayette Square.
Lakeside-Lester Park Community Club -- $2,500 to replace 25-plus-year-old musty carpeting that is buckling and worn out, and add a dehumidifier and/or vacuum cleaner. The lower level room can then be used for programming for upper elementary, middle school and high school youths, and additional adult and community meetings.
Educational Frontiers - Summit School -- $2,500 to replace playground equipment that has become unsafe for use by children attending Summit School as well as children in the neighborhood.
Boys and Girls Club of Duluth -- $2,500 to remodel a room in the basement into an all purpose room conducive to a variety of programs. A beach theme will be created, along with a snack bar.
East Hillside Community Club -- $2,500 to provide tables and chairs for the new community room.
Lake Superior Girls Fastpitch/DSPA -- $2,257.19 to purchase portable/temporary fencing for the girls' softball fields. This fencing will be used by many other groups and will provide the opportunity for tournaments to be held in Duluth.

Harrison Community Club -- $1,250 to replace kitchen flooring and replace and install new flooring in restrooms.
