Overheard: Gov. Tim Pawlenty
During his keynote address at the annual meeting of the Duluth Area Chamber of Commerce Thursday at the DECC, Gov. Tim Pawlenty pitched his proposal to overhaul education in Minnesota. Here are some snippets of what he said.
"Our teachers in Minnesota work hard. ... However, we also know we've got to raise the bar."
"If you have a Republican governor who says, 'Thou shall have performance pay.' And if you have a teachers union, they're going to say, 'Thou shall jump in the lake.' "
"If you don't have a skill and you don't have an education in this economy, you're in deep doo-doo."
