Overdue skier found dead in Cook County

There were no signs of trauma or suspicious activity, according to authorities.

A 60-year-old Wisconsin man who was out skiing was found dead Saturday in Cook County.

At approximately 4:55 p.m., the Cook County Sheriff's Office responded to a 911 call for an overdue skier who was thought to be skiing in the Pincushion Ski Area. David McCarthy, of Onalaska, Wisconsin, was found dead during the course of a search, a news release said.

There were no signs of trauma or suspicious activity, according to authorities. An autopsy will be completed by the Midwest Medical Examiner's Office to determine the cause of death, which is still pending..

Other responding agencies included Cook County Search & Rescue, North Shore Health Ambulance, Grand Marais First Responders and U.S. Forest Service Law Enforcement.
