The Orr School was locked down Thursday morning after a large knife was found in a locker room.

The school was locked down from about 8:50 to 11:10 a.m., Charles Rick, superintendent of the St. Louis County School District, said Thursday afternoon.

"Students are safe and classes have resumed," he said.

A subsequent investigation revealed a 16-year-old girl had brought the knife for a bake sale and forgotten to take it home, according to the St. Louis County Sheriff's Department. No criminal charges are planned.

After the knife was found the school went into lockdown and deputies and school officials conducted a security sweep of the building, said Joe Skofich, supervising deputy in Hibbing for the Sheriff's Department.

"It's common school protocol for this kind of situation," he said.
