Got a song in you? Check out the second annual Songwriting Festival at Big Top Chautauqua. Those interested should submit two original songs of any style by June 19. Up to 12 finalists will be selected to perform in the competition finals on the Big Top stage Aug. 27 with the Blue Canvas Orchestra and host Bill Isles. A panel of judges will select two winners to perform in the opening set of the Aug. 29 Suzanne Vega concert -- not to mention the title of "Big Top Chautauqua Songwriter of the Year."
Details are available at www.bigtop.org/canvas .
The five-day festival runs from Aug. 26 to Aug. 30 and includes Blue Canvas Orchestra and Singers' tribute show to Cat Stevens and Paul Simon.
Darrell Scott, Johnsmith, Adrienne Young and Karen Savoca accompanied by Pete Heitzman, Rad Lorkovic and Dan Sebranek will perform, and they'll offer free songwriting workshops. Bill and Kate Isles have a young songwriters workshop that runs afternoons from Thursday through Saturday, and ends with a mini-performance.
Greg Brown performs on the final night.
