One person was found dead and a home destroyed after a fire Sunday morning in Ashland.
The Ashland Fire Department said the house on the 600 block of 15th Avenue West was 75 percent engulfed by the time firefighters arrived after 5:30 a.m.
They were told by emergency dispatchers that there might be people trapped by the fire.
Firefighters put a ladder to a second-story window and started a search for people. They were forced out by extreme heat. Crews then decided to work on dousing the fire.
After two hours, firefighters found a body on the first floor of the home.
