A man was transported to an area hospital with minor injuries after firefighters located him in a house on fire in the early morning hours on Thursday.
The Duluth Fire Department responded to a fire at 114 Chester Parkway at about 2:30 a.m. Crews arrived to find the front porch on the two-story, single-family house on fire. One of the home’s occupants was safely out, but the other occupant was still inside. Firefighters located the man at the back of the house. He was transported to the hospital with minor injuries, according to the fire department. No firefighters reported any injuries.
Firefighters pulled the porch away from the rest of the structure due to the potential collapse of the porch roof and they were able to bring the fire under control. The fire extended to the house’s interior, causing heavy smoke damage.
Total damage is estimated at $60,000. The Duluth Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the fire’s origin and cause, but officials reported Thursday that it appears accidental in nature.
