A man is dead after drowning off a beach in Gilbert Saturday night, and another was transported to the hospital after a separate water-related incident.
The St. Louis County Sheriff's Office responded to a call of a water emergency in Gilbert around 6 p.m., and discovered that 41-year-old Mountain Iron resident Jeremy Stevens had jumped off a cliff and subsequently drowned.
The Gilbert Police Department, the Gilbert Fire Department, the Virginia Fire Department, Minnesota Department of Natural Resources and the St. Louis County Rescue Squad assisted in the response.
The incident remains under investigation.

In a separate incident Saturday night, the Sheriff's Office responded to another water emergency on Island Lake at around 10:45 p.m. Witnesses told the Sheriff's Office that a 21-year-old Duluth man, who had been jumping on an inflatable trampoline, went underwater and hadn't resurfaced. The witnesses found him underwater, pulled him to shore and started CPR, the Sheriff's Office said. The man was airlifted to Essentia Health-St. Mary's Medical Center in Duluth. Authorities have not released his name or details about his condition.
Gold Cross Ambulance, the St. Louis County Rescue Squad and LifeLink Air Ambulance responded to the incident in addition to first responders from Normanna, Gnesen and Fredenberg townships.
