Hurricane Earl was approaching North Carolina’s Outer Banks late Thursday. Fortunately, it was starting to weaken – as of 7 p.m. its maximum sustained winds were 110 mph, down from 140 mph earlier in the day.

It appears the storm will brush the Outer Banks overnight, and then rake Cape Cod later Friday. For much more information on the storm, check out NOAA’s page on Hurricane Earl .
