Northwestern defeated Hayward 3-2, winning the Heart O' North Conference high school volleyball title Friday night at Hayward.
The Tigers won 22-25, 25-15, 25-22, 17-25, 15-6 to finish the regular season 24-5-2 overall and 13-1 in the conference.
Anna Morgan had 23 kills and Lindsay Taipale added 18 while Lindsay Garay totaled 56 set assists for the Tigers, who open the Division 2, Sectional 1 playoffs at home Tuesday against Cumberland.

The Eskomos defeated the Agates 18-25, 25-11, 25-15, 25-8 in a Polar League Conference match.

Esko (19-4-3, 9-1) finished second behind Carlton in the conference.

7A TEAM TITLE
No. 10-ranked Virginia faces Pierz at 9 a.m. today, while Foley meets Aitkin at 11 a.m. in the semifinals of the Section 7A high school girls team tournament at Gold's Gym in Sartell, Minn. The final is at 2 p.m.
Virginia (15-2) is seeking its first team title since 2005. Foley eliminated defending champion Pine City 5-2 in the quarterfinals.
In Monday's Section 7AA team tournament, Grand Rapids-Greenway plays Forest Lake in Hibbing, and Hibbing-Chisholm meets No. 8-rated and defending champion Elk River in Virginia, both at 11 a.m. The final is 3 p.m. in Virginia.
