A flash flood watch is in effect from this afternoon through Thursday afternoon for most of the Northland, with another in a series of intense rainstorms set to move into the area.
The National Weather Service said heavy rain is possible across part of the region as the storm approaches, although it was too early to say exactly which area will get the most rain.
With significant rain falling on top of already wet ground, full lakes and swollen creeks, the Weather Service says rapidly developing flooding is possible, especially near streams, culverts and urban underpasses.
The heaviest rain and thunderstorms will begin this afternoon and should move out of the area by Thursday.
Areas in the watch include the southern two-thirds of St. Louis and all of Carlton, Cook, Lake and Pine counties in Minnesota and Burnett, Douglas, Ashland, Bayfield, Price, Sawyer, Washburn and Iron counties in Wisconsin.
