Charges pending in Virginia fire assault
Charges are pending in the case of a man being critically burned in Virginia early Monday.
Police found Forrest Dean King, 21, naked and lying in the 200 block of First Street North about 5:30 a.m. He was burned on more than half of his body. Clothing found nearby was still smoldering.
King was listed in critical condition Tuesday afternoon in SMDC's burn unit in Duluth.
About 6 p.m. Monday, Virginia police officers arrested a 38-year-old man on a preliminary charge of first-degree assault. Police hope to give their reports to the St. Louis County Attorney's Office today, according to Virginia police Chief Dana Waldron. Formal charges will follow.

An accelerant was apparently used in the attack, Waldron said.
"The suspect had some burns on his hands when they arrested him," he said.
King and the suspect knew who each other were, Waldron said.
Police have no known address for King, and no permanent address for the suspect.
The News Tribune typically does not publish the names of suspects until charges have been filed. A search of Minnesota court records for the suspect found 16 criminal complaints with more than 30 counts, including charges for assault, disorderly conduct, drug and alcohol violations.
Wascott man dies in rollover
A 74-year-old Wascott man was pronounced dead at the scene where his three-wheeled motorcycle rolled over Tuesday morning on Douglas County Highway T at the Cut Across Road, just west of U.S. Highway 53.
The Douglas County Sheriff's Department is withholding the man's name until relatives are informed.

The accident was reported just after 10 a.m. Tuesday. The vehicle was eastbound on Highway T and failed to negotiate a turn, authorities said.
Woman hurt on motorcycle in good condition
A Duluth woman seriously injured in a motorcycle accident Sunday was listed in good condition Tuesday at SMDC.
Diane Lynn Line, 64, was injured when the motorcycle on which she was a passenger collided with a car. According to Duluth police, the accident happened at Grand Avenue and Fremont Street at 1:47 p.m. when the driver of the 1987 Honda motorcycle, Dennis Leon Line, 65, of Duluth attempted to make a left turn in front of a car.
Diane Line was thrown from the bike and suffered a serious leg injury. Dennis Line was treated and released from a local hospital for his injuries. Three people in the car were not injured.
Teen hurt in ATV accident doing better
One of two teenage boys airlifted to Duluth after an ATV accident near Marcell on Sunday was in good condition Tuesday.
Nicholas Paul Wiegele, 13, of Hovland was in good condition at St. Mary's Medical Center. At his family's request, the medical center declined to release the condition of the second boy, Austin Michael Weber, 14, of Zimmerman.

According to the Itasca County Sheriff's Office, Weber was driving a Polaris ATV when it left the roadway and struck a tree, throwing both teens from the machine.
