North Shore Inline Marathon will close some roads Saturday until noon

Duluth Police are reminding motorists that several roads in and near Duluth will be closed part of Saturday morning for the North Shore Inline Marathon.

Duluth Police are reminding motorists that several roads in and near Duluth will be closed part of Saturday morning for the North Shore Inline Marathon.

The marathon uses a route similar to that used by Grandma's Marathon, including Scenic Drive, London Road, and Interstate 35 to the Lake Avenue Exit. The entire course will be closed to traffic and parking. Downtown Duluth and Canal Park will be open to traffic throughout the race. Park Point will be accessible via Lake Avenue.

Roads that will be closed Saturday include:

* At 5 a.m. the north entrance to Scenic Highway 61 will close at Two Harbors.

* At 5:30 a.m. the south entrance to Scenic Highway 61 will close near Brighton Beach. Alseth Road, McQuade Road, Ryan Road, Homestead Road and Lakewood Road will close at their southern ends.

* At 6:45 a.m. the half marathon race starts, with the full marathon following. Southbound traf-fic from the Two Harbors Expressway will be diverted onto Superior Street at its intersection with the Expressway.

* London Road will be closed from 26th Avenue East to 61st Avenue East. London Road will re-main open west of 26th Avenue East for local business and residential traffic.

* Northbound I-35 will be closed at Mesaba Avenue, Lake Avenue and Fifth Avenue West during the race.

* Southbound I-35 will be closed at 26th and 21st Avenue East to Lake Avenue. Traffic will be di-verted to East Superior Street and to East Third Street.

* Harbor Drive will be closed from the Aquarium to the east entrance of Harbor Drive.

The DECC parking lot will remain open during the race with access from Railroad Street. Access to the Aquarium will be from Railroad Street.

The Fifth Avenue West overpass of I-35 will have delays during the race. Motorists are advised to take Lake Avenue to Railroad Street.

The race course north of McQuade Road should reopen to traffic by 10:30 a.m. The remainder of the course should reopen by noon.
