Margaret Mead Traveling Film and Video Festival will visit the Historic Norshor Theater, 211 E. Superior St.
The festival kicks off at 8 p.m. Wednesday with the Prince Paul & the Conscious Party in the Mezzanine Lounge. A showing of "How to Fix the World," an animated film that brings to life the work of A.R. Luria's research with the Uzbek Soviet farm collectives in the 1930s follow at 10 p.m. The night will close with a performance by Wrekt DJ at 10:45 p.m.
Thursday night of the festival focuses on women and healing. The evening begins at 7:30 p.m. with a showing of "Afghanistan Unveiled." The show was filmed by the first team of women video journalists trained in Afghanistan. This film explores the effects of the Taliban's repressive rule and the recent U.S. military campaign on Afghani women.
"Afghanistan Unveiled" is followed at 9 p.m. by "Madanm Ti Zo (Mrs. Littlebones)." This film focuses on Madanm Ti Zo, a midwife and herbal doctor, who runs her own clinic in Haiti.
The Friday films take a look at love and ideology. The evening begins with "Marry Me" at 7:30 p.m. This film is about a man, Erik, on holiday in Cuba from Hamburg who meets a woman from Havana, Gladis. One year later, Gladis and her 8-year-old son, Omarito, board a plane for Germany.

The festival will round out with a showing of "Oscar," a film from Argentina at 9:30 p.m. "Oscar" is about a taxi driver, family man, and intrepid guerrilla artist, who rebels against the bombardment of advertisements in Buenos Aires.
A daytime festival companion will also feature a selection of films from the Duluth Public Library's "I-Film" series. The Norwegian film "Buddy" will be shown at 3:30 p.m. Thursday and the Canadian film "Long Life, Happiness and Prosperity" will be shown at 3:30 p.m. Friday.
