Endorsements are flying out these days in the DFL primary race for 8th District Congress. On Tuesday, the campaign for Rick Nolan announced his endorsement by Minnesota Gov. Mark Dayton. On Friday the Clark campaign announced an endorsement from former President Clinton.
"We need more than a 'good vote' in a Congress. We need a proven leader who can get past the partisan gridlock and get things done," Dayton said in a news release. "We need someone that will fight to rebuild the middle class, protect Medicare and Social Security and invest in America's infrastructure. Rick Nolan is clearly the person we need representing us in Washington."
On Clark, Clinton said in a release: "I am confident she will bring the common-sense solutions we need to Washington."
Nolan also has the support of former U.S. Rep. Jim Oberstar and U.S. Sens. Amy Klobuchar and Al Franken, while Clark and Jeff Anderson have the support of several local elected officials across the district as the three battle for an Aug. 14 DFL primary victory. All three have some formal union support.
The winner goes on to face freshman incumbent Rep. Chip Cravaack, a Republican from North Branch.
