Second Avenue in Virginia and the ramp leading to the avenue from Highway 53 are scheduled to be closed overnight for several weeks.
The closures will run from 7:30 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. nightly for about three weeks beginning Tuesday, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation. The closure will begin south of the southern-most access on Second Avenue and at the beginning of the exit ramp to Second Avenue.
The closures are due to embankment work for the Highway 53 relocation project.
MnDOT is hosting its monthly Coffee and Conversation to provide project updates at 10 a.m. Thursday at the MnDOT headquarters in Virginia at 101 N. Hoover Road.
Crews are continuing to reconstruct southbound Highway 53 from Vermillion Drive to the eastbound ramp to Highway 135, according to MnDOT. Traffic is down to one lane in each direction while crews are rebuilding the southbound road. The work is expected to take two months. Work on the northbound side of Highway 53 in that area is expected to take place next year.
