Specialty license plates to benefit Minnesota state parks and trails went on sale Thursday.
The new plates feature an image of a canoe and pier, surrounded by imagery of the state’s four seasons. The cost of the new plates starts at $60, plus tax. That includes a one-time $10 fee for the plate itself, and a minimum $50 contribution (renewable annually).
The plates offer unlimited access to all Minnesota state parks and recreation areas for one calendar year from purchase, replacing the need for a $25 annual vehicle permit. Proceeds from the sale of the plates will benefit state parks and trails.
The introduction of the new plates coincides with the 125th anniversary of Minnesota’s state park system this year.
