You'll need a few more quarters to park at metered spaces in Duluth starting this week.
The city has begun changing the timing on the meters to reflect the 50 percent increase in fees approved by the City Council in July, with switches to downtown meters on Superior Street and in the Civic Center area likely completed by the end of Tuesday, according to a release by the city.
When the changes are complete, parkers will see the following:
r Meters that used to charge a quarter for a half hour will instead by 25 cents for every 20 minutes.
r Meters that used to charge a quarter for an hour will instead be 25 cents for every for every 40 minutes.

r Three-hour lots that used to charge a quarter for every hour and a half will go to a quarter for every 45 minutes.
The increase in parking fees is a large part of Mayor Don Ness's proposals to balance the budget in 2008 and 2009, with the city already expecting to collect $813,000 in fees this year.
Public Works Director Jim Benning said Tuesday he didn't know when the changes would be complete and didn't know how much it's costing the city to make the changes.
The city said that crews making the switches are restoring time to meters for cars already parked at the spaces when the changes are made.
