Name the storm

It's not a snowstorm -- yet. But the rain falling and freezing and about to wreak havoc, if the weather watchers and forecasters can be believed, still qualifies as a winter storm.

It's not a snowstorm -- yet. But the rain falling and freezing and about to wreak havoc, if the weather watchers and forecasters can be believed, still qualifies as a winter storm.

And this winter, as you may recall, the News Tribune is urging readers to name the storms for prizes and fun. We're going in alphabetical order, similar to the way hurricanes are named down in the Gulf. Alfheim, Blitzen's Blitz, Curly, Dancer and Elgeurial all struck between Dec. 14 and Jan. 3. Since then, it has been pretty quiet. Ridiculous cold will do that.

So today, we're looking for an ice storm name that starts with F. And if the ice gives way to snow tomorrow, as some have predicted, we'll be looking for a snowstorm name that starts with G.

Send your name ideas to the News Tribune's Chuck Frederick at cfrederick@duluthnews.com . We'll publish winning names on the Web on Tuesday and in the print editions Wednesday.
