The Douglas County Sheriff's Office has identified the Superior man who died Sunday after an all-terrain vehicle crash as David M. Smith, 23.
Smith was alone on the ATV on Lackson Road, about two miles south of U.S. Highway 2 in the town of Amnicon, when he met another vehicle traveling in the opposite direction and swerved off the road. He was thrown from the ATV and was not wearing a helmet, Sheriff Thomas Dalbec said in a news release.
Officers responded to the scene about 3:20 p.m., the sheriff's office said.
Smith died of injuries suffered in the accident, Dalbec said.
The crash remains under investigation by the sheriff's office, the Douglas County Medical Examiner's Office and the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, Dalbec said.
