The Community Health Resource Fair will be 5-7 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 28 at Myers-Wilkins Elementary School, 1027 North Eighth Ave. E.

Why this event? So families and neighbors from the Duluth Community can connect with agencies and individuals that provide service/support/education that contribute to their well-being. The event will include:

• Expo with tables from community agencies and businesses.

• Mini-classes (30 minutes) on a variety of topics including family fitness, yoga, healthy cooking on a budget, parent/community leadership, life skills and intro to post-secondary opportunities. Childcare for children over 3 years of age will be available for parents/guardians participating in these sessions.

• Nutritious snacks in the cafeteria.

• A community survey to learn what services/opportunities families would like to see offered at other schools and how they would like to participate in the Community Schools initiative.

Throughout the U.S., including here in Duluth, residents experience drastic disparities in their health and educational outcomes based on family income and race. These outcomes can be positively impacted when children and their families receive support for basic needs; are engaged in learning that provides them access to a variety of employment and life skill opportunities; develop a strong support system of family, friends, and mentors; have a voice in shaping their schools and neighborhoods; and know how to connect with supportive services in their communities.

For more information or to sign up for a table or a mini-session (please sign up by Friday,Oct. 16) contact Kathy Bogen at (218) 940-1593 or kathybogen@msn.com .
