Overnight lows dropped into the 20s below zero in parts of the Northland this morning, with a record low at International Falls.
The cold spots, as reported by the National Weather Service in Duluth, were Crane Lake, Babbitt and Embarrass, which each reported preliminary low temperatures of 27 below zero.
Ely and the Grand Marais airport reported lows of 24 below, with 23 below at International Falls and 22 below at Upson in Northwestern Wisconsin, and also at Cook.
The low at International Falls is a new record for March 16. The previous record was 18 below, set in 1909.
Elsewhere in the Northland this morning, Hibbing reached 16 below, and the low at the Duluth airport was 5 below. It was warmer near Lake Superior, with a low of 9 above zero at the Duluth harbor.

Temperatures are forecast to warm into the 20s above zero today, and shouldn't fall below zero tonight as clouds move into the region - bringing a chance for light snow.
