A Morgan Park landmark is set to be razed next week.

St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church, which closed in 2015, will be demolished next week, WDIO-TV reported.

The closure was the result of the Duluth Diocese’s 2012 strategic plan, created to address a shortage of priests, demographic changes and a lack of resources. The plan had recommended that St. Elizabeth’s in Gary-New Duluth and St. Margaret Mary in Morgan Park merge with St. James in West Duluth because of the area’s declining population - and that one of the three churches eventually close.

St. Margaret Mary was chosen as the one to close.

Parts of the nearly century-old building have been salvaged, WDIO reported. The tabernacle was taken to St. Elizabeth’s, the station reported, while many other items - the pews, stained glass, statues and baptismal font - were taken to the new All Saints parish in Baxter, Minn., which plans to construct a new church in the next few years.
