A weather station in Silver Bay recorded more than a half-foot of rain in less than four hours on Wednesday night as a series of thunderstorms dropped heavy rain on parts of the North Shore.

The National Weather Service in Duluth relayed a report of 6.58 inches of rain at the Silver Bay Marina between 5:30 p.m. and about 9:15 p.m. Wednesday. A weather spotter in another location near Silver Bay reported 4.16 inches of rain through 9:20 p.m.

A flash flood warning was issued for the Silver Bay, Beaver Bay and Tettegouche State Park areas on Wednesday night; the Weather Service relayed a report of water over Minnesota Highway 61 near Silver Bay as of 9:25 p.m.

Flash flood warnings also were issued for the Twin Cities on Wednesday night, with reports of storms producing 2 to 4 inches of rain in less than 90 minutes. The Weather Service relayed several reports of street flooding in the metro area.
