Duluth received 1.6 inches of snow by 3:30 p.m. today, the National Weather Service reports.

More rain and snow are expected over the weekend.

"Tonight we could see some more that patchy, freezing drizzle again with a slight chance of snow," said meteorologist Amy Liles. The slight chance of snow continues into Saturday.

"Saturday night is when that big system is coming in from the west," she said. "It looks like Saturday night we could start out with some freezing rain, switching over to snow on Sunday. Depending upon how warm it is will determine the amount of snow we get. We don't have a strong grip yet on how much snow we'll get."

Snow will continue Sunday night, tapering off on Monday, she said.

Freezing drizzle and wet snow created scattered slippery spots on area highways today. The Minnesota State Patrol called in extra troopers this morning to help deal with accidents and vehicles in ditches across the region.
